Solar photovoltaic installation successfully completed at Salamabila

61.2 kWp / 210 kWh / 30 kVA hybrid solar photovoltaic installation, deployed by GoShop Energy at the Salamabila General Reference Hospital (Maniema, DRC) to replace the exclusive use of diesel generators. This project provides an autonomous, stable, and continuous power supply for critical medical equipment, drastically reducing fuel costs and maintenance frequency. It guarantees the continuity of health services in isolated areas.

In Salamabila, in the province of Maniema, GoShop Energy has deployed a 61.2 kWp / 210 kWh / 30 kVA hybrid solar photovoltaic installation to provide autonomous, stable, and sustainable power to the General Reference Hospital, which is isolated from the national grid. Until then, the hospital relied solely on two 22 kVA diesel generators, used in redundancy and consuming more than 70 liters of fuel per day, which resulted in:

  • Significant and recurring financial expenses;
  • High risk of power cuts;
  • High maintenance costs;
  • Unstable power supply for sensitive medical equipment;
  • Constant noise and environmental pollution;

In this context, the lack of a reliable energy supply jeopardized the quality and continuity of care, particularly for laboratories, operating rooms, and diagnostic equipment.

To address this issue,

GoShop Energy designed and installed a three-phase solar power plant, combining solar production, battery storage, and backup generators with:

Photovoltaic power

  • 136 solar modules of 450 Wp
  • Total installed power: 61.2 kWp

Energy storage

  • 42 BYD LV Flex batteries of 5 kWh
  • Total storage capacity: 210 kWh
  • Supervision via Battery Management Unit (BMU)

Conversion and management

  • 3 Victron Quattro 48V / 10 kVA charge converters,

configured in three-phase

  • 5 MPPT RS 450/200 controllers
  • 2 MPPT 250/70 controllers
  • 2 MPPT 250/70 regulators

Monitoring and communication

  • Cerbo GX with GX Touch 70 display
  • 4G LTE-E GSM and GPS modules
  • Remote monitoring via the Victron VRM platform

Safety and distribution

  • Low voltage main switchboard (LVMS) 30 kVA / 61.2 kWp
  • Complete protection: circuit breakers, fuses, surge protectors, signaling
  • Prevectron S40 and S60 lightning arresters,

Emergency power

  • 2 x 22 kVA diesel generators (main + backup)

Results

Since the solar system was commissioned:

  • Annual fuel consumption has been drastically reduced, from $2,672.72 to $0. The use of generators is now very rare, limited only to cases of low battery levels (between 40% and 20%). This marginal consumption is in no way comparable to the initial estimated daily cost of 70 liters of fuel per day,
  • The frequency of maintenance has decreased significantly, now limited to a single monthly visit;
  • The hospital benefits from clean, stable, and continuous energy, ensuring uninterrupted power supply to all medical equipment, particularly the cold chain (blood bank, laboratory, vaccine room, pharmacy), as well as the administrative offices and the hospital's general secretariat,

  • "We thank you for this installation, which, since it was put into service, has enabled the hospital to function very well and without any interruptions. This positive impact is significant in reducing high fuel costs. Previously, the cost was (7,000 FC per liter x 70 liters per day x 12 months), which was extremely burdensome for the hospital and jeopardized its operation. Today, everything is working perfectly thanks to this solution."

Impact

This installation now guarantees continuity of healthcare services, day and night.

The Salamabila project demonstrates that hybrid solar systems are a reliable and sustainable solution for critical infrastructure in remote areas of the DRC.
